    Departure Applications in South Africa

A departure is a relaxation of a development parameter in the zoning scheme - typically coverage, FAR, height, building line, parking or density. It does not change the zoning category, only the parameter. Departures are common in extensions, additions and infill developments where the proposed building marginally exceeds a development control.

    Required motivation

The motivation must show why the departure is needed, that it does not detract from neighbours' enjoyment, and that it is consistent with the surrounding character.
